Jones County, MS Public Records
Section 25 of the Mississippi Statutes states that public access to certain records is allowed. These records include vital, arrest, criminal, inmate, and property records. The Clerk of the Chancery Court handles some of these records. Vital records such as birth and death certificates are managed by the Office of the Chancery Clerk. Property records are handled by the Clerk of the Circuit Court who doubles as the County Court Clerk.

The two detention facilities in Jones County are managed by the Jones County Sheriff's Department. These facilities are used by local, state, and sometimes federal law enforcement agencies to detain criminals. About 230 inmates are booked annually in each of the detention facilities. The Inmate Roster gives remote access to records of incarcerated persons within the County. Inmate records can also be obtained by visiting the Sheriff's office. Not all inmates have their information open to the public. If there are security concerns, an inmate's information will be sealed from public access.
